The KTM 1090 Adventure R has all the charming qualities and is still cool to ride. The additional power makes it a more thrilling ride, particularly on meandering roads where its outstanding control and light steering come into the open. The 1290 Super Adventure R actually has the same frame and engine as last year’s more touring-oriented 1290 Super Adventure (which is now known as the 1290 Super Adventure T for 2017) combined with a lot of the features of the old 1190 Adventure R. Note: the unique Adventure R crash cage around the engine is a bolt-on component and not actually part of the base 1290 frame.

Read our 2014 KTM 1190 Adventure R review Rider, August 2014 After 2,100 miles on 1190-R, I rode it back to KTM’s U.S. headquarters in Murrieta, California, and swapped it for another standard KTM 1290 Super Adventure R Brakes. Brakes remain unchanged from the previous model with Brembo radial callipers still grabbing twin 320mm discs. The cornering ABS is excellent, and you can de-activate the rear brake ABS, while in the off-road mode the ABS is designed to work on gravel and lose terrain. At $13,499, the 790 is the same price as the base Honda Africa Twin (and $1,500 less than the Adventure Sports package), $1,100 less than the Triumph Tiger 800 XCx ($1,900 cheaper than Triumph’s new Scrambler 1200 XE), $2,100 cheaper than the F 850 GS (Select Package in Racing Red), and Wings for 1090 is much smaller that original silencer. It is also much lighter. Wings weights only 2 kg. I couldn't measure the weight of stock silencer, as my little scale is limited to 5 kg and it is heavier than that.
